Getting around on the island

The island has a good road network. The most important resorts are well indicated and easy to reach along tarmac roads.
We advise you to drive carefully along the western coast from Marciana Marina to Campo nell'Elba and on the eastern coast from Porto Azzurro to Cavo because the road is narrow and there are sharp bends.
If you decide to visit the island without your own means
of transport you can rent a car, a motor-cycle, a scooter, a bicycle
or a boat from one of the rent agencies on the island, or you can
use public transport such as buses and taxis.
In summer it is not allowed to drive in the centre of some towns from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m..
There are many garages on the island qualified to carry out car repairs and assist motorists in the event of breakdowns.
Car fuel (unleaded petrol, diesel) is available at any of the island's 19 petrol stations, run by the various oil companies. Liquid propane gas is not available on the island.
Campers are not allowed to stop outside assigned camping areas.
Every kind of free camping ( you can be fined even if you picnic
on a table or stop your caravan on its rests) is forbidden both
by the Ordinances of the City Council and by the Rules of the Tuscan
Archipelago National Park. The only areas allowed for parking, filling
up and discharging waste (besides campsites, of course) are in Porto
Azzurro (the area near the graveyard), in Rio Marina (Cavo) and
in Campo nell'Elba (the area near the stadium).
It is requested for people exercising land rover activities to observe that it is strictly forbidden and legislated by Law n. 48/94 through all pathways, fire paths and forest paths. For further information, please contact the National Park office: www.islepark.it
