On the main road which leads from Marina di Campo to Lacona, on the immediate
outskirts of Marina di Campo, you take the road to the Acquarium, and after
about 150m. turn right on the dirt track signposted "Fonza". You pass
the entrance to a camping site and carry on for roughly 2.5km.
This is a dirt track, and in some places, especially uphill, has deep potholes
making it unsuitable for low-slung cars or motor bikes.
The beach is not very big, its roughly 95m long by 8-10m wide. It is exposed to the S.S.W. The beach is made up of grey-beige boulders, smooth and quite comfortable and in some points there is also fine sand. To the right and left of the beach are large boulders unsuitable for lying sunbathing on.
It is one of the two beaches on Elba which allow dogs access to it.
In contrast with the stony beach the sea bed is of sand similar to the nearby beach of Marina di Campo. It reaches out from the shore out for many meters, at least 20 or more, making it easy to play or walk in the water.
The island of Montecristo can be seen directly opposite(distant about 45km).
There are no facilities on this beach and no parking apart from a few places along the road.
The gulf is wide, with mediterranean scrubs on the hills at the back and on the promontory on the right hand side looking towards the sea. It is very well protected from northerly winds.
The few villas dotted on the hillside are not visible from the beach.
