Sant’Andrea can be reached by following the main road from Marciana to Marina di Campo. The road follows the
coast where small beaches and bays can be seen far down below and on the skyline the islands of Capraia and
Corsica.
At the turning for Sant’Andrea the road leads down towards the sea and slowly snakes its way down into what seems to be an island within an island.
Sant’Andrea is a well known tourist resort dominated by granite cliffs and rocks which have been smoothed down by the action of the sea and wind. This natural spectacle created by the elements will leave you speechless. When the vegetation flowers in spring and covers the promontory in bright pink flowers it offers a spectacle unique to this part of the island. Sant’ Andrea is particularly popular with those who want to sunbathe on the rocks and spend a relaxing holiday.
The metered car park is relatively large and well signposted on the left hand side before arriving at the seaside – roughly 100m away.
The beach is not very big and covered in ochre coloured sand with a shallow seashore. Directly behind the beach are 3 bar – restaurants with good facilities. Looking towards the sea on the left you can see the tip of Sant’Andrea and what are locally called “le cote piane”, it refers to the smooth granite rocks which can be reached accessed very easily on foot.
On the right hand side a small pathway across the rocks leads to the small but enchanting sandy beach of Cotoncello. There is room to sunbathe everywhere on the rocks. The water gets deep very quickly almost everywhere apart from the beach.
