Rules of swimming
The rules of swimming, are the rules that watercrafts and swimmer must respect, are set every year by the various harbour offices. The competent harbour office on Elba is the one of Portoferraio. No motor-boat can go within 200 metres from the beach and 100 metres from cliffs. Within these zones
from 8.30am to 7.30pm it is forbidden to transit and moor with any boats (apart from kayaks and pedal boats). These areas must be well delimited with buoys positioned 50 metres one from the other. On free beaches there must be clear multilingual warning signals in case of lack of
delimitation. Within these zones from 8.30am to 7.30 pm it is also forbidden to fish (apart from fishing rods from the beach where there are no swimmers). In some cases there are dedicated lanes where boats can arrive and depart from the beach at very low speed. Swimming is hence prohibited
withing these lanes.
