Useful suggestions in the waters of Elba
The waters of Elba are the very best the diver can admire during the immersions.
The beautiful variety of the depths offers many opportunities to whom want to see a wonderful world: shoals, sheer descents, layers of rocks that sink in the blue sea, extraordinary places where you can find a great variety of fauna and sea flora.
The most interesting places you can visit during your immersion are the wreck Elviscot, a cargo near the "Scoglio dell'Ogliera" in Pomonte, situated to a depth of 12 metres, and the Junker 52, an aeroplane of the Second World War that has been recently discovered in front of Portoferraio to a depth of 38 metres.
Moreover you can't miss the opportunity to make an immersion in the waters of Scoglietto, a protected area from 1971, situated in front of the beach Le Ghiaie in Portoferraio. It's difficult to imagine what beauties hire this part of the sea of Elba with its wonderful sheer descent that goes on up to a depth of 25 metres.
You'll be unlikely to be disappointed when you dive in the waters of Elba. You can get to the underwater areas only by boat. You can hire it in the numerous Diving Center of the Island. The Diving Centers are organized very well and have a highly qualified staff. You'll find everything you need diving safely and enjoying yourself.
People who would rather dive on their own account must carefully observe the Ordinance of the Harbour - Master's Office (Ordinanza della Capitaneria di Porto). This advice is always valid wherever you decide to spend your holiday.
It's possible to dive
even in autumn and winter because the temperature
of the water is always temperate thanks to the
mild climate of Elba.
We advise you to wear a semi-watertight
diving suit from November to October but you can
wear a damp diving suit from May to October. At
the beginning of the warm season it's advisable
to wear a under-diving suit but it depends on
the depth you want to get to.
Elba, as well as all over Italy, it's forbidden the underwater-fishing with the auto-snorkel.
It's possible diving even in the night but every diver must draw attention to himself with the use of a starlight and have a main and a spare torch.

It's necessary that all safety-equipment is in order: tax of parking, insurance, fire-extinguisher, flares, life-buoy etc. The Maritime Authorithy often controls the waters of Elba.
Navigation: it's forbidden approaching the crowded beaches driving the motor for less than 200 metres and the sheer-cliffs overlooking the sea for less than 100 unless you drive carefully and slowly perpendicularly the coast.
