Note: Not only can you delight in the crystal-clear water and the superb sunsets to be seen from the romantic Innamorata bay, facing the little Gemini islets, but on 14 July you can watch the annual pageant held to commemorate a legend, which dates back to 1534, that recounts of two lovers, Lorenzo and Maria.
The young inamorata in an attempt to save her lover, who had been captured and carried off to sea by Barbarossa’s pirates, threw herself into the sea, where she was swallowed up by the waves; only her shawl was found on the rock. Since then the rock has been known as “la ciarpa” (shawl) and to this day the beach is known as “Innamorata”; the spectacular torchlight procession with over 100 figurants dressed in sixteenth century costume
is an event not to be missed.
The locality is about 5 km from Capoliveri and can be reached by car.
