During the summer months a public bus service runs to and from Poggibonsi, Siena and Piombino Marittima (with some stops along the way). It takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes from Siena to the port of Piombino, where you get the ferry for the Island of Elba.
The service runs on 2nd and 3th June and from 9th June to 9th September with a DAILY service.

¹ From Mondays to Fridays you can go to and from Valle d'Elsa and Siena on the 131 ordinary line with departure from the sea line, while on Saturdays and holidays the bus is direct from Val d'Elsa.
² Tickets from Piombino to Siena / Val d'Elsa may only be purchased up to 2.00 p.m. of day of departure.
Should you be unable to purchase your ticket before setting off you can do so on board the bus at no extra cost, but only if there are empty seats.
Siena - Piombino 13,50 euros (single) - 24,00 euros (return)
Poggibonsi - Colle V.E. - Piombino 14,50 euros (single) - 26,00 euros (return)
