If you want to catch the ferry to the Island of Elba, whether you arrive from the north or the south, you have to get to theport of Piombino, where you will see both the small railway station of Piombino Marittima and the bus stop right opposite the quays where the ferries come in and leave.
As regards the train timetables you need to check the trainline website, but be sure to click Piombino Marittima for your arrival (and not just Piombino).
Some lines don't go as far as Piombino Marittima but stop at Campiglia Marittima; so here you will either have to change train or get a bus that in only 20 minutes will get you to Piombino Marittima (stopping first at Piombino Central Station).
The bus leaves from the stop outside the Train Station in Campiglia Marittima.
Please note: the Campiglia Marittima - Port of Piombino bus timetable doesn't come up on the Trenitalia web site! If you wish to view the constantly updated bus timetable please check the Tiemme Public Transport Company web site.
The train ticket also includes the bus journey to and from Campiglia - Piombino.
A single bus ticket costs 2.10 euros, but 3,00 euros if you buy it on board.
Hint from Infoelba: For those coming from or via Florence, there is a Florence - Piombino BUS service that connects Florence train station with Piombino Marittima e The Trenitalia Freccialink service enables you to travel on board the "Frecce" trains and continue by bus that leaves from the SMN station in Florence.
Hint from Infoelba: get all the information you need concerning times and ticket prices of your return journey before you leave: the ticket office in Piombino Marittima train station is closed and there is only one automatic ticket machine, and there are very few train ticket offices or travel agencies that sell FFSS train tickets in Elba.
