Forgotten about for many years, the production of extra virgin olive oil in Elba is growing more and more in an honourable way even outside the island. The effort is thanks to the Elba Accociation of Olive Growers, lead by Franco Provenzali; he was the man who in 2007 got the thirteen oil producers in Elba together in an attempt to recover the long forgotten olive groves.
Traditional olives are grown in Elba, and the excellent extra virgin olive oil that is made from them has been granted the Tuscany IGP(protected in name and geographical region) label; the olives used are Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo and Pendolino. The olive groves are on land on hills overlooking the sea surrounded by Mediterranean bush.
The olives are picked by hand when the time is right, they are then cold pressed and shortly afterwards the oil is kept in a dark place where the temparature is constantly checked. The oil produced by the members of the Associazione Olivicoltori Elbani is put on the market under the "Lo Scoglio" brand name.
It is an extra virgin olive oil that is 100% from Elba, as unique as it is excllent, and from a sight, perfume and taste point of view is absolutely incomparable.
It has a golden colour and a delicate bouquet, with a level of acidity that is no higher than 0,3; thanks to this, it is perfect with any dish whether it is made with meat or fish.
