The third Caretta caretta turtle nest of the extraordinary summer of 2023 once again provided an incredible spectacle and set a new record.

The eagerly awaited and much-loved baby sea turtles of Fetovaia hatched on the evening of 5 September, after exhausting days and nights of monitoring by Cigno Verde volunteers, surrounded by amazed tourists. Little stars born on a starry night.

The nest, which was immediately described as “perfect” due to its distance from the sea and the choice of location, proved to be exactly that when it was opened by Dr Cecilia Mancusi of ARPAT and volunteers from Legambiente Arcipelago Toscano.

Inside the Fetovaia nest, 79 hatched eggs and only 2 unhatched eggs were counted, with an incredible record reproductive success rate of 97%.
