From Piombino to Cavo in approximately 3 hours

On Sunday August 6th 2017 Gregorio Paltrinieri, the 1500 m free style World Champion as well as Olympic Champion in the Rio Games in 2016 was the protagonist of a high adrenaline event: he swam from Piombino to the Island of Elba.

The 10 km swim started in Piombino and ended on the beach in Cavo where the olympic champion arrived approximately 3 hours later welcomed by the spectators' heartwarming applause.

A group of 50 swimmers swam along with Paltrinieri in a relay race, each covering 200 metres in open sea, after which the next one took over.

The event was part of the Follow your dream, Never Give Up! campaign organised by the Bridgestone firm, official partner on the olympic games and the firm for which Paltrinieri was sponsor.
