The Island of Elba is paradise on earth for lovers of both trekking and mountain bikes. This may sound rhetorical but it's the truth: the network of paths on the Island of Elba that totals 314 km and 60 km of grit roads is an open invitation to go for walks or on cycling excursions.
To give you an example: against the approximately 374 km of paths and country roads, in Elba there are "only" 220 km of main roads, that on average are 1,4 km of paths per square kilometre and just 0,9 km of roads!
So this means that we can safely say that in Elba there are more kilometres of excursion routes than main roads, and that trekking and mountain bike fans can explore each and every corner of the island!
Approximately 50% of the territory in Elba is within the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and all the paths are free for anybody to use.
Some of them are difficult from a technical point of view and also very long, while others are very easy and suitable for anyone, including small children, so even a family outing is absolutely possible, or suitable even for a group of people of different ages.
Feel like reaching the summit of Monte Capanne, or going for a walk along the coast or cycling through the woods? You are spoiled for choice! The paths are as varied as the scenery in Elba, which means that your destination becomes the route itself!
