Bagnaia beach in Portoferraio, on the Island of Elba

Bagnaia is both the longest and best equipped beach on this part of the coast.

The beach is one and the same thing with the small town behind it, and lies in the heart of a completely natural area that is also very important from an environmental point of view, with lush mountains all around and the Volterraio Castle to the south-east.

The beach is about 300 metres long and consists of both colourful pebbles and sand. The water is crystal clear and the sea bed is made up of tiny pebbles, so it is the perfect beach both for those who want peace and quiet and also for those who love sea sports.

Bagnaia is is an excellent starting off place for going snorkelling if you want to discover the sea beds in Elba or for going onboat and canoe excursions along the more northern beaches. You can reach them only by sea, and they are all surrounded by pristine and wild nature: Zupignano, Le Secche, Nisporto and Nisportino (you can, if you prefer, also get to this beach by land), [page id=808"]Rivercina[/page] and Mangani.

There are many facilities on Bagnaia beachincluding a sailing school and there are also several small piers if you want to moor your boat, bathing establishments and boat, canoe and pedalo rentals. On the promenade of the town behind it you will find newsagents, shops, bars and restaurants.

The large gulf  sits between the two promontories of Punta Pina and Punta degli Scarpellini, and looks out onto a fantastic view of both the gulf and the old part of the town: the promontory of Portoferraio with its lighthouse and the fortresses.

How to get to Bagnaia beach

It is easy to get to Bagnaia beach by car. From Portoferraio take the road for Porto Azzurro then turn left after about 4 km and keep going till you see signs for the beach.

In Bagnaia there are both several fee paying carparks and other ones that are free at the side of the road.
