Best beaches when a scirocco wind is blowing
Beaches that are sheltered from the scirocco wind (South-East)
The Scirocco (from the south-east) is one of the most frequent winds on the Island of Elba.
It is very strong both in autumn and in winter, just before some low pressure, and can last for days (usually up to three), making the sea very rough.
During the summer it is more like a morning breeze. It is a damp, humid wind, and it often gets on people's nerves! The best way to cope with this clammy heat is to head for a beach on the other side of the island and cool off in the water!
