Fonza beach is on the southern side of the Island of Elba, in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba, and is one of the 2 beaches in Elba where dogs are allowed.

Rules and regulations concerning beaches where dogs are allowed
(passed in the course of the Communal Meeting num. 41 July 10th 2006)
Art.1
This Town Council, having accepted the request on behalf of dog owners to take their dogs to the beach, has chosen this part of the beach, within the territory of the commune.
Art. 2
Dogs are allowed on this part of the beach on the condition that they have been vaccinated according to the law.
Naturally the following rules must be respected:
- Under no circumstances may dogs defecate on the beach.
- Should this occur, the owner must clean up using the necessary doggy bag.
- All dogs, regardless of their size, must be kept on a lead at all times.
- Dogs may go into the sea only from 19.00 to 08.00. You are allowed to take your dog for a walk along the shoreline on the condition that the dog is on a lead.
- Should your dog shake off the water or the sand near other people on the beach, and he may be taken up to other people on the beach only on their consent.
- There must be at least eight metres between your dog and anyone else's.
- The dog must be kept in the shade.
- The dog must have a dish for drinking.
- You must take your dog for a walk at least once every two hours so it can urinate, but away from the beach.
- The owner is responable for the dog's behaviour.
Apart from the forementioned rules, dog owners are subject to all laws concerning pets.
Art. 3
The local Town Council will inform all its inhabitants of this decree by putting ip a poster for the public to see or by distributing leaflets to all dog owners containing all the rules at the entrance to the beach or part of beach where dogs are allowed, and brochures will be given to all dog owners.
Life guards, traffic wardens, port authorities and local police will ensure all the rules and regulations are respected.
Should any of these rules not be respected, the owner will be fined from a minimum of 25 euros to a maximum of 500 euros.
Art. 4
This decree will come into force from the moment it is approved, and will be available for the public to view it (art. 87 comma 8 Communal Law)
