The beautiful Cavoli beach is one of the most famous beaches (and crowded in summer) on Isola d'Elba. Its popularity is due to the clear sea, beautiful sand and its particular microclimate.
Its southern exposure and Monte Capanne, which protects the bay from northern winds, create a mild climate that allows for a golden tan and swimming even out of season. The beach is frequented from March to November.
Interesting fact: its name derives from “cavili”, meaning the already squared blocks of granite that were once extracted from the quarries in the area.
Made up of granular sand, the kind that does not easily stick to the skin, Cavoli beach lies within a splendid bay framed by Mediterranean scrub and long granite cliffs. The sea, generally clear and transparent, ranges in colour from light blue to deep blue and helps make Cavoli one of the best-known and most popular beaches on Isola d'Elba.
The sandy seabed slopes gradually and, although it is not particularly shallow, it allows you to enter the water gradually.
More than 350 metres long and up to 25 metres wide, it is divided into two by a short rocky stretch: the larger section to the east has several beach clubs, while the smaller section to the west is free and mainly frequented by those looking for a little tranquillity.
As well as the beach, the cliffs on the right are also very popular with sunbathers and younger visitors, who often come here to enjoy fun dives into the sea.
Infoelba recommends: On the eastern side of Cavoli you can discover the splendid Grotta Azzurra, also known as Grotta di Mare. Accessible only by boat or pedal boat, it is a sight not to be missed.
From Cavoli beach, the horizon stretches across the islands of Montecristo and Pianosa.
Although it is also recommended as a beach for families with children, Cavoli is one of the liveliest beaches on Isola d'Elba. It is the ideal place for young people and for those who enjoy having fun. In July and August, the beach comes alive with beach parties, cocktails, live music and DJ sets organised by the long-established venue Il Convio Cavoli. Here you can enjoy a snack, have an aperitif overlooking the sea or stop for lunch, surrounded by the wonderful atmosphere of the bay.
Getting to Cavoli beach
The beach is about 5 km from Marina di Campo. It is easily accessible by car, or by bus using the public transport service on Isola d'Elba, following the numerous road signs found along the entire western loop of the island.
Opposite the beach there is a paid car park, while another supervised paid car park is located halfway down the road leading to the sea (via Cavoli).
Along the provincial road there are several parking areas and small free pull-offs. In particular, coming from Marina di Campo, 300 metres after the turn-off for via Cavoli, there is a car park from which a short path leads conveniently to the beach.
Due to the large number of visitors, however, during high season it can be quite difficult to find a parking space.
