Beautiful and unspoiled in terms of its landscape, Istia Beach is an ideal destination for nature lovers seeking tranquility.
Sometimes also referred to as Istria, the beach is fairly large, about 110 meters long, not very deep (5 to 7 meters), and faces north to northeast.
It mainly consists of medium-sized sand and small pebbles, with some areas featuring washed-up posidonia.
Istia is nestled in a small bay: on the left, a charming promontory (Punta di Calanova) with a small yet accessible pine forest separates it from Calanova Beach; on the right, through the rocks, you can reach the small islet of Liscoli (about 200 meters away), which frames the beach.
Behind the beach, another beautiful and large pine forest offers shade throughout the day for those who wish to relax in the coolness.
Due to its orientation, the beach gets sunlight in the morning but tends to be partially shaded in the late afternoon.
The beach offers a rental service for umbrellas and deck chairs, as well as SUP boards and canoes. There is also a boules and badminton court, picnic tables, and bike parking. Additionally, a small stall sells artisanal products and offers the opportunity to purchase wine from Tenuta Ripalte.
The atmosphere is enchanting, emphasizing tranquility and respect for nature. Reaching Istia Beach is not particularly easy, but the beauty of the seabed and the tranquility of the beach make the effort worthwhile.
How to reach Istia Beach
The route to the beach is not straightforward. A dirt road with several potholes starts from Straccoligno and leads to the beautiful Calanova Beach. Here, or rather at the curve just before reaching the Calanova parking lot, a barrier prevents motor vehicles from entering the private Costa dei Gabbiani area.
Istia Beach is the first you encounter after passing the barrier and walking about 150 meters. It can also be accessed via a short path from the right side of Calanova Beach.
There is no designated parking, but cars can be left on the roadside or in the shaded parking lot near Calanova Beach. Alternatively, as noted on a sign at the entrance of the road: "there is free parking for those arriving on foot."
