La Rossa is one of the two small beaches of the town of Porto Azzurro. It is located within the harbor basin and faces the largest inlet on the eastern side of the Island of Elba. This little beach is all that remains of the larger beach that once (before the construction of the pier, which created the current port) extended all the way to the town hall.
In the past, La Rossa was made up of sand mixed with reddish gravel rich in minerals. Following a beach nourishment project carried out in July 2021, the beach is now made of fine white sand. The water is clear, especially when the Maestrale wind blows, helping to refresh the water.
It is well-protected and seldom crowded, though it provides a convenient option for those who live in town and want to reach the sea on foot for a sunbath. The nearby town of Porto Azzurro offers all the necessary services.
The beach offers boat rentals, inflatable boats, and sailboats.
Given the characteristics of the area, which also includes the harbor in the same water, the beach is not suitable for swimming.
How to reach the beach
Being in the heart of the town, reaching the beach is very easy. Coming from Portoferraio, it is located right at the entrance to Porto Azzurro. To park your car, continue towards the center of the town and leave it in one of the free or paid parking areas available.
