Luisi d’Angelo Beach

Luisi d’Angelo beach is a small and beautiful secluded cove located along the eastern coast of Isola d’Elba, not far from Rio Marina. Together with Marina di Gennaro and Porticciolo di Rio , it can be reached from Via Panoramica del Porticciolo, also known as Sentiero dell’Amore.

The three coves have similar characteristics, with shores made up of gravel of different sizes, small pebbles and larger stones. Luisi d’Angelo stands out for its peaceful setting, rich Mediterranean vegetation and still wild appearance.

Just under 50 metres long, the beach consists mainly of small pebbles in various colours. The landscape is characterised by interesting layered rocks, with alternating light and dark lines. These are ancient sedimentary formations shaped by the geological processes that affected eastern Elba, an area particularly rich in minerals.

The gravel seabed contributes to the clarity of the water, which is generally transparent and suitable for snorkelling and observing the coastal seabed. Behind the beach there is a wood of holm oaks and pine trees, which is not accessible, while a stone wall marks the boundary of the private property adjoining the shore.

Due to its shape and the surrounding vegetation, the beach becomes shaded fairly early. To enjoy more sunshine, it is therefore best to visit in the morning.

Luisi d’Angelo is a beach without services, rarely crowded and especially suitable for those seeking peace and quiet. It is known mainly to local residents and holidaymakers staying in the area, as well as to those who reach it by sea in a small boat.

From the beach, the view opens towards the mainland, taking in the stretch of coast between Piombino and Follonica and the islets of Palmaiola and Cerboli. On particularly clear days, the Argentario promontory and Isola del Giglio may also be visible.

The beach faces east and is more sheltered from westerly winds, particularly the maestrale, ponente and libeccio.

How to get to Luisi d’Angelo beach

From the centre of Rio Marina, follow the signs for Via Panoramica del Porticciolo, also known as Sentiero dell’Amore.

After about 2.2 kilometres, with the final section along an unpaved road, shortly before the building marked with street number 27, you will find a small descending staircase on the left leading towards some houses.

After going down for about ten metres, the path begins on the left, crossing the woods and reaching the beach. The route is of medium-high difficulty: it is quite long, winding and characterised by a steep gradient and uneven ground.

Particular care must be taken with dry leaves, pine needles and the more slippery sections. The path is not suitable for pushchairs, people with limited mobility or unsuitable footwear.

There are no organised parking areas nearby and the spaces available along the unpaved road are very limited, almost non-existent. The beach can also be reached on foot or by bicycle from Rio Marina, taking into account the distance and the characteristics of the route.
