Marina di Campo beach in Marina di Campo, on the Island of Elba

The main reason why tourists choose Marina di Campo for their holidays by the beach is precisely because of its beautiful, golden sands beach.

The beach in Marina di Campo is the longest on all the Island of Elba. It is about 1400 metres long, and sits enclosed between the old part with the tiny port of the town- hence the name of the beach - and on the other the gulf of La Foce. Across the water out on the horizon you can clearly see the Island of Montecristo.

It consists of golden, fine grain sand that has come to be over years of the crumbling of the granite rocks of Monte Capanne. Marina di Campo beach is perfect for small children because the water is shallow till far out: in some parts even as far as 50 metres from the shore you can still wade or play with a ball in the water that barely reaches your waist.

There are many advantages due to the beach being practically next to the town: if you're staying in the centre you can simply walk to the beach so if you have small children with you just put them in their pushchair and off you go!

Both the beach and the town of Marina di Campo are very popular among teenagers too especially in the month of August.

There are many free areas on the beach as well as many bathing establishments; there are bars and restaurants right on the beach whether you want a quick snack or a romantic dinner by candle light. Some of the restaurants that belong to the establishments are very elegant, others are more down to earth, but both offer a wide choice of excellent fish starters and main courses.

There is also a wide choice of activities if you are a sports lover or simply want to make the most of your free time: diving schools, sailing schools, widsurfing schools and rental, boat and pedalo rental, guided kayak excursions etc, and don't forget you can do them all with the comfort of the town right beside them.

The most rugged part - that is also free - is in La Foce on the eastern side, where you will also find a nice pine wood with a children's play park, and where you can also cool off in the shade when the sun is at its hottest. The rugged coast rich in coves and inlets starts off in La Foce and goes as far as Capo Fonza. You can get to the cliffs and rocks by walking along the paths or, if you prefer, by sea on a canoe or pedalo.

The water is usually very clear , and you will get all the peace and quiet you want between the rocks.

Thanks to the Gulf of Marina di Campo the beach is quite sheltered, and is at its best on days when a north-west wind is blowing, and the water is calm and cystal clear.

How to get to the beach

You can either drive to the beach, or go by bus or walk there from the town centre, and there are both numerous fee paying and free car parks all over the town.
