Mola beach, in Porto Azzurro, Elba Island

Mola beach is located on the north-eastern side of the renowned Mola bay, an area well sheltered from the winds thanks to the depth of the gulf it overlooks. Behind the beach lies one of the island’s most interesting wetlands, where migratory birds often stop.

The beach is not very busy, as the Gulf of Mola is mainly used as a mooring area for numerous boats. On the right-hand side is also Marina di Mola, a shipyard offering moorings along its marina and quays.

The beach consists of sand mixed with gravel and is about 200 metres long and 25 metres wide at its widest point.

One of the features of Mola beach is the presence, since 2006, of the Elba Island Dog Beach, an area specifically dedicated to those who wish to spend a day by the sea with their dog.

The Dog Beach does not occupy the entire Mola beach: it is located on the left-hand side of the beach, within a designated and equipped area of about 500 m². Here dogs are allowed access and can swim in the stretch of water in front of the reserved area. In the same stretch of sea, accompanying people are not permitted to swim, as established by the ordinance of the Municipality of Porto Azzurro.

The Dog Beach has 20 beach umbrellas, 40 deckchairs, 7 changing cabins and 2 chemical toilets, one of which is accessible to people with disabilities. Equipment and useful services are also available to take care of dogs during their time on the beach.

The beach is easily accessible by car and has a large free car park.

How to reach Mola beach

Follow the provincial road from Portoferraio to Porto Azzurro and, 1 km before reaching the town, take the unpaved road on the right and continue for a few metres to the car park.
