Naregno beach between Capoliveri and Porto Azzurro, on the Island of Elba

Watched over by the two Spanish fortresses of Forte Longone and Forte Focardo, Naregno beach can be described as yet another of the Island of Elba's jewels.

The beach is only three kimometres from Capoliveri and Porto Azzurro.

Is is about 500 metres long and just under 30 metres wide, and consists of fine grain sand and small shingle. There is lush vegetaion all around: pine trees, holm oaks, oak trees, acacias, eucalyptus trees, Indian fig plants, agaves and palm trees.

Naregno is very popular among families with small children partly because the water is shallow till quite far out, partly because of all the facilities available on the beach and partly because it is a sandy beach.

There are also several bars, restaurants and some small shops behind the beach. Sports lovers will also find sailing, windsurfing and scuba diving schools, and if you wish there is also a pedalo and canoe rental.

The sea breeze makes an evening walk along the sea front particularly pleasant.

Since Naregno faces north east it tends to be exposed to the odd wind coming from that direction.The breathtaking view from the beach stretches right along the entire coast of Porto Azzurro from Forte San Giacomo to Punta delle Cannelle (Capo d'Arco).

On the southern part of the beach a short path through the heart of Mediterranean bush goes as far as Forte Focardo, and this walk too is considered very pleasant.

How to get to the beach

It is very easy whether you are coming from Capoliveri or from the main road from Mola for Portoferraio - Porto Azzurro.

There are many hotels right next to the beach so during peak season, unless you are staying in one of them you may have some problems in finding somewhere to park.

Those who are staying in Naregno, or those who simply want to visit the area, will be pleased to know there is also a Minibus service to and from the town centre in Capoliveri that runs during the summer months.

Another option is a small boat service that sails to and from Porto Azzurro and this means you can avoid the stress that comes from parking worries.
