Punta Bianca beach, also called Carbonaia is the last of the three beaches at the south-eastern edge of the Costa dei Gabbiani. It is a rugged and open beach, approximately 165 metres long and very wide, and consists mainly of dark sand mixed with fine shingle. Although it is very near the Ginevro mine, here you cant really say that it is an eyesore caused by the mining activity of the past.
The beach lies at the foot of some high cliffs (amphibolite, a a metamorphic rock) that also have very beautiful white streaks of quartzite, that is in direct contrast with the chromatic colour of the dark rocks.
The cliffs overlooking the beach are very popular with mountaineers and lovers of free climbing.
The beach is perfect for those who love peace and quiet and enjoy being in a truly natural environment still untouched by man. Be careful when you go in for a swim because the water is deep more or less as soon as you go in.
Access to the beach is quite complicated so this means it is normally very quiet; mainly sportsmen, and the odd guest staying at the Tenuta delle Ripalte go there.
How to get to Punta Bianca beach
Just like the other beaches in this area, access is usually by sea. You can, if you prefer, go on foot, but you need to ask for permission from the owner of the Tenuta delle Ripalte, then follow a long and somewhat challenging path.
