Punta della Contessa bay in Capoliveri - Island of Elba

Cala di Punta della Contessa is a tiny but unique beach very near the two famous beaches of Laconella and Lacona.

It consists of dark coloured shingle and is set within an inlet among the rocks of Punta della Contessa (where it gets its name) that you can see on the eastern side of the pretty beach of Laconella.

Where this beach sits is exactly what makes it so unique. The two rows ofrocks at either side that enclose it right down to the water's edge give it a sort of "V" shape that looks very like a natural, crystal clear pool with water that even has hues of green.

This is yet another unique jewel that the coastline has to offer to its holidaymakers. Although there are no facilities available, the beach is the ideal place if you just want peace and quiet, and is perfect if you want to go scuba diving or snorkelling.

Above the beach there is what remains of an old bunker dating back to World War II, built with the aim of watching over and protecting the entire gulf of Lacona (where a heavy battle was also held on June 17th 1944).

If you go up to the bunker you will be able to admire the breathtaking view of Lacona beach, Cala della Contessa as far as all of Laconella beach.

Thanks to the rocks on both sides it only gets winds from the south. 

How to get to Punta della Contessa bay

In order to reach Punta della Contessa just start off from the nearby Laconella beach, and you will see a short but somewhat steep and winding path that initially goes upwards towards the promontory but then goes downwards towards the tiny bay.
