Punta di Mele cove, Capoliveri, Island of Elba

Punta di Mele cove (that the locals also  call Punta alle Mete lies on the Capo Fonza promontory along a beautiful part of the coast and is between Ripa Nera and Cala dell'Ongio.

The beach consists of medium/large stones, most of which are dark in colour while the rest are much paler. There are magnificent, steep white cliffs that go right down as far as the sea on both sides of the beach, (but above all in the central part), and they help to make this cove even more fascinating.

The cove is usually very quiet, partly because of the fact that it doesn't consist of sand and partly because theonly way to get there is by boat.

It is perfect if you want to have a relaxing day by the sea in total peace and quiet.

The stones on the beach are made up of a mineral that seems to draw and keep the heat so when the summer is at its peak the temperaturer on the beach can be rather high.

The water is turquoise and always crystal clear so this explains why this part of the coast is so popular with scuba divers.

Needless to say there are no facilities on the beach and the cliffs on either side are not very suitable for sunbathing.

Look out across the horizon and you have a wonderful view of the Islands of Pianosa and Montecristo.

The cove is exposed to both southern and western winds.

How to get to Punta di Mele cove

The only way to get to the tiny beach is by boat.
