This part of the coast of the Island of Elba is very rich in tiny, rugged coves that are absolutely fascinating because they are surrounded by pristine nature..More often than not you can only get to them by following steep and challenging paths or by boat.
And the tiny della Guardia beach, or Punta Polveraia cove, that takes its name because of the Lighthouse that stands proud on the cliffs to the left of the beach, and bears the same, is no exception to the rule.
The beach is about 65 metres in length and consists of small to medium sized pebbles mixed with light and dark coloured rocks. The beach can be described as fascinating, partly due to the wild, rugged beauty therein, partly due to the sea being crystal clear, and partly because it is very quiet and peaceful, so all this makes the beach very popular,
not forgetting the fact that it is very near the longer Patresi beach.
No facilities are available on the beach.
Getting to Polveraia beach
Go along the main road from the town of Patresi and head down towards Patresi beach (past the Lighthouse). 650 metres further along, about 250 metres past the Lighthouse you will see a sign on your right for the beach. Although the path is only a few hundred metres long it is quite steep and slippery.
You will see some free, parking spaces by the side of the road, or, if you prefer, there are also some more further down, but here you have to pay.
