Scaglieri beach can be described as yet another of nature's masterpieces, and is in La Biodola gulf,, on the northern side of the Island of Elba not very far from Portoferraio.
It is about 140 metres long and consists of very fine, golden sand that has been formed by the disintegaration of the granite porphyries and the presence of other minerals from the nearby cliffs and surrounding areas.
The unbelievably crystal clear water is shallow till quite far out, and on the rocks to the right right you can see the tiny village with its pastel coloured houses.
In short, it is a truly valid compromise for those who love magical, enchanting beaches but at the same time want all the comforts at hand: bars, restaurants, mini markets, a newsagent's, a tobacconist's, a bathing establishment with all the facilities like boat and pedalo rental as well as a windsurfing school, all of which are right next to the free part of the beach.
Thanks to where it sits and all the facilities available, it is not just the perfect beach for families with small children but is also ideal if you are a sailing, winsurfing or canoeing fan.
Since it faces westwards it gets the sun all day until dawn so watching the sun set between Elba and Capraia while the colours in the sky change is an absolute must.
The view from the beach is breathtaking, and goes from Biodola beach to the beaches of Porticciolo and the point of Nasuto as far as Marciana Marina, and you can even the Islands of Corsica and Capraia on the horizon.
Scaglieri beach is separated from the longer Biodola beach by some rocks that go right down as far as the water, but you can easily walk along the cement walkway across them.
How to get to the beach
Take the main road that goes from Portoferraio to Marina di Campo, then after about 6 km turn right for La Biodola. Shortly before you get to the beach bearing the same name you will see a right turning with signposts saying "La Biodola" that gets you right to the beach.
The car park however has an hourly rateshuttle bus service for La Biodola that runs during the summer and is organized by the Commune of Portoferraio and the public bus service.
