Although considered a single large beach, the small and delightful coves of Viticcio are actually five in total, all overlooking the eponymous gulf.
They are characterized by smooth gravel mixed with pebbles and small stones in various shades of gray, divided by a cliff covered with pines and Mediterranean scrub, ideal for sunbathing.
Only the two central beaches are easily accessible via a staircase; the others are practically only reachable by sea or by walking along the cliff.
With a wild and unspoiled appearance, these small beaches offer no services (the restaurants and bars are those of nearby hotels and are located on the road), making them perfect for those who want to stay away from the usual crowds and enjoy a day at the beach in maximum relaxation and privacy.
They offer a pristine natural environment, clean sea, and a truly picturesque setting that stretches from the Enfola promontory to the Gulf of Viticcio. On clear days, the view extends as far as the Island of Capraia and Corsica.
The seabed, with strong contrasts between blue and aquamarine, is transparent and beautiful, especially during the sirocco winds.
How to get to Viticcio
The beaches of Viticcio are located about 6 km from Portoferraio and can be reached by car by following the road signs. There are about 25 parking spaces, with additional parking available along the road a little further uphill. The area is also served by the urban bus line 7.
Once in the Viticcio area, to reach the main beach it is necessary to follow a path that starts beyond the parking area, next to the entrance of Hotel Scoglio Bianco, and continues behind the Giacomino Restaurant, on the right.
Due to heavy rains this winter, the path is particularly damaged: there are partially broken steps and a rope to assist with descent and ascent. Access to the beach is therefore not suitable for everyone, but only for those in good physical condition and used to walking on rough terrain.
There is also a second path starting from the road just after Hotel Viticcio, but its use is strongly discouraged for safety reasons.
