The best months for a quiet and peaceful holiday on the island of Elba are April, May, June and September, when the weather is very mild, the island isn't full of tourists, the museums and mines aren't too crowded, and you can still go for wonderful walks surrounded by colourful, lush greenery whose perfumes fill the air. The best towns if you want beaches and facilities nearby are without a doubt Marina di Campo with its beautiful golden sands beach, Portoferraio with its Napoleonic museums and where you'll find the major places of historical and archeological interest, and Porto Azzurro, with its beautiful square opposite the beach.

Almost all the three and four star hotels offer half board, and if you don't want to come over by car, the public bus service connects the major towns on the island.
