This room is dedicated to the 7 islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, each represented by a column of cubes over a blue base representing the Tyrrhenian Sea.
An endemic species or at least a species that is very closely linked to that specific island sits on each "island".
We must however look upon the water in this context as more of a border that hinders the growth in number of the species, because in actual fact it is a "physical" obstacle for the species that live and reproduce here so tends to compel them to be isolated from the others.
There is a large board at either side of the room that fully explains the importance of an endemism and how it actually becomes so. There is also a model of a "waterfall" in the room with some of the typical species from these environments that also serve as a bioindicator.
All the details and descriptions of the species on show can also be found in digital form both in the tablets and the app that is there for the public to use and view.
