The Small Mine came to life thanks to an idea of Emilio Giacomelli, who for over 40 years has worked with precious stones and created his workshop for cutting ,jewellery of every type and shape.

Once inside the Small Mine and the Etruscan Mineral Mine you will follow a route that leads you to the mining origins and traditions on the Island of Elba. The complete tour includes a visit to the mine, to the Etruscan mineral museum and a free tasting of the different typical Elba products in our bar/wine shop.

Visit to the Small Mine

The mine has been built solely with natural and authentic materials. The guided tour is carried out sitting in an original mining cart from Elba.

Etruscan Mineral Museum

Inside the museum you can see a wide selection of minerals that came from the Island of Elba along with data sheets and photogaphs from where they were found. In the museum the sections of 4 ovens and some plastic models of reproductions of life down the mine can be seen. The tour also includes a film showing the past mining activity on the territory and the melting of iron in the Etruscan furnaces.

Visit to the handirafts workshop and showroom

In the handicrafts workshop you can take part in the various stages in working the stones and the creation of jewellery. In the same area a wide selection of minerals of different sizes, quality and origin are on sale From the workshop you can also visit the showroom where you will see precious jewels and similar on sale, most of which have been created handcrafted in the laborotory and that can also be made to your taste.

There are various facilities to be found in the building:

  • Learning laboratories for children where they are directly involved in manual work using minerals from Elba.
  • A Wine house for wine tasting where you will be offered samples of some of the most important gastronomic products from the teritory (wine, honey, oil,....)
