Excursions to Gorgona, organized by the Park Authority, take place from March to October, with a higher concentration during spring and autumn.
The visit consists of a trekking excursion along an authorized route exclusively in the presence of an authorized guide.
The itinerary is approximately 7 km long, with a total elevation gain of about 300 m.
The excursion starts from the Belvedere terrace and reaches Torre Nuova (of Medici origin, located in the upper part of the village to protect the port) using dirt roads built by the Prison Administration. It then reaches Punta Paratella, where it is possible to stop and enjoy a magnificent view over Cala Maestra. The route continues to the island’s small historic cemetery and to Rocca Vecchia, the oldest fortification on the island, dating back to the Pisan period.
Partially shaded hiking itinerary.
Length: 6 km – Elevation gain: 250 m – Duration: 3 hours – Difficulty: easy to moderate.
Tips for the trekking excursion
Excursions can only be undertaken if participants are equipped with trekking shoes with non-slip soles and ankle support, and comfortable, appropriate clothing suitable for hiking activities. In case of unsuitable clothing, the Guide may decide not to allow participation in the visit. There are no water sources along the route, so it is recommended to bring an adequate supply of water and a packed lunch.
During the guided visit, additional rules must be respected for security reasons. The use of cameras and mobile phones is not permitted, and swimming is prohibited. It is not allowed to leave any kind of waste on the island (please bring a suitable container to collect and carry your waste). Pets are not allowed.
