Park Offices in Montecristo

The Casa del Parco of the Montecristo State Integral Nature Reserve (since 1971) and Biogenetic Nature Reserve (since 1988) is located inside the Casotto dei Pescatori, an ancient building that has been renovated and made welcoming through some interventions under the Resto con Life project.

The casotto was built at the express request of Queen Elena, who had visited Montecristo on her honeymoon, staying there for several days with King Vittorio Emanuele III, and returning at least once a year for a long period starting from 1895.

The building was constructed in the early 20th century to accommodate fishermen who would take shelter in Cala Maestra during bad weather.

Over the years, additions were made to the original structure, including a masonry porch and several auxiliary rooms. The building was in very poor condition, but after renovation, it has regained its original features and now represents the gateway to the Island of Montecristo, a unique and precious natural treasure at both the national and international level.
