This route takes its name from the Castagnone Spring that is on the way up to Monte Perone.
The route starts in Sant'Ilario, from where you will then start the challenging via del Casotto,, a forest track over sandy ground that gets you to the top of Monte Perone.
From here, do approximately 2 km on a tarred road and that will take you to theCastagnone Spring.
Turn right and you are on a single track that goes through the woods and after a short up and downhill road you head downwards towards the hamlet of San Piero. The surface is initially a beaten track; once you get to the area known as "Piane del Canale" you can admire the wonderful panorama of all the archipelago islands.
From here onwards, the downwards road becomes more technical as far as San Piero and once again the road is tarred up till the hamlet of Sant'Ilario.
