From 2013 to 2015, the Island of Elba became the marine backdrop for a stage of the Giro d'Italia di Ciclocross, an international event organized by the Asd Romano Scotti in collaboration (on the Island of Elba) with the Asd ElbaBike of Enrico Lenzi and Monica Maltinti.
The unique landscapes of the Island of Elba, combined with the particularly technical and very fast circuit, were the ingredients that made the Portoferraio stage so important and captivating.
The route wound through natural trails in the San Giovanni Thermal Park, with the magnificent view of the port behind the riders, and featured a mix of sand, asphalt, and gravel.
