One of the last spring races on the Isola d’Elba is the Elba Trail, one of Italy’s most historic and scenic trail running competitions.
Organised by A.S.D. Atletica Isola d’Elba, the event is an unmissable fixture for trail running enthusiasts. The extremely technical routes cross granite sections, panoramic ridges and demanding elevation gains, offering a unique contrast between the peaks of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and the blue of the Elban sea.
The competitive races alternate between single tracks, forest roads and scree slopes, with routes suitable for different levels of fitness:
58 km – Main Race: 3000 m D+. A demanding route designed for experienced athletes, crossing the Elban wilderness.
28 km – Tuscan Sky Race Championship, Single Race : 1600 m D+. A fast, technical route reaching the summit of Monte Capanne at 1,019 metres.
14 km – Competitive and non-competitive: 500 m D+. A technical introduction through the villages of Marciana and along panoramic trails.
14 km Trekking: A walk for companions and enthusiasts of slow-paced trekking.
Tuscany Skytrail Tour
The Elba Trail is the opening stage of the Tuscany Skytrail Tour, a prestigious regional circuit dedicated to skyrunning, of which it is also one of the founding races. All six races in the circuit are affiliated with FISky, the Italian Skyrunning Federation, guaranteeing high technical and organisational standards.
Did you know?: In 2018, the GTE Reloaded was also held, a highly technical 60 km route with 3,230 m D+, starting in Cavo and finishing in Marciana Marina.
