The Island of Elba Marathon is one of the races that marks the opening day in the spring calendar of running races on the island. It is an excellent opportunity to make the most of a holiday on the Island of Elba while you enjoy the first rays of the spring sun and maybe even manage to go for a swim.
It is a day that is rich in sport and well being; not only expert athletes that are used to running in professional races come to take part, but also their managers, family members and friends also come along and join in with the non competitive exhibitions, because it is a day for all.
Both the Marathon (42.195 km) and the Half Marathon (21.097 km) are held along a very scenic and beautiful route: although the road isn't always smooth and flat, it isn't however very challenging.
You start off in the gulf of Marina di Campo, then you head upwards above the sea along the Costa del Sole until you get to the characteristic towns of Seccheto (the turning point in the half marathon) or Chiessi (the turning point in the marathon).
The 10 km (competitive and non competitive) is held along a smooth, flat route at times across town roads and at other times along the sea front in Marina di Campo.
