Lacona - Procchio stop

Departure: Lacona
Arrival: Procchio
Average time needed: 3 hours and 30 min
strong>Length: 10 km
Uphill difference in height: 471 m
Route difficulty: challenging
Route tracks: n. 215, GTE, n. 248, n. 245
What to look out for:Via dei Lecci is where you start, in Lacona, exactly in Via dei Vigneti, where you take track n. 215 that goes up as far as Serra del Pero.

Go through a dense wood of holm oaks then take the junction where you see track n. 214 (that leads to Mount Barbatoia), and only a few metres further ahead you will see the [page id="1086"]GTE and here you turn left.

In this central part of Elba, the Grande Traversata Elbana follows a military road built during World War II. Along the track you can see beautiful granite artifacts like the military stones and some pieces of work to control tthe water. At each side of the road you will also see some impressive examples of holm oaks, a clear example of the type of vegetation that in the past covered most of the territory on the island.

You will now arrive at a crossroads where the road turns southwards, so at this point leave the GTE and turntrack n. 248. A little further on you come to another junction and here you have to keep to the left.

And this is where, near Mount Pericoli, two different tracks meet up, namely n. 248 and n. 245. At the next junction, where the two tracks go into one, keep going straight on along track n. 245 that goes downwards until you cross the Portoferraio-Procchio main road, near Colle Pecorino where you will see a tiny church.

At this point keep walking to your right of track 245 then go down the steep track that runs at the foot of the electricity poles. The track runs alongside Lamaia ditch and ends up at the pretty beach that bears the same name, thus creating a small, humid area where a lush grows.

nearby you can also see several typical, beach plants and bushes grow, like star-thistles, with their low bush branches and leathery, thorny leaves , or the showy monkshood, a species that is easily recognized due to its oval-shaped thorny and pointed infructescences, or the sea rocket with its tiny pink flowers.

The track then goes along the coastline along a part known as the Sentiero della Salute that soon gets you to the tiny beach of Porticciolo. From here you go further up the coast and have to go through holm oaks that are in the shade, until you get to the beach in Procchio and finally, to the small town bearing the same name.
