The Via dell’Essenza is a circular hiking route along the coast of the Isola d’Elba. The initiative, promoted by Fondazione Acqua dell'Elba and the Parco Nazionale Arcipelago Toscano, aims to enhance the island's natural beauty and make it more accessible to residents and visitors, with full respect for the environment.
In 2023, Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba and the National Park worked together to equip the first of the eight trails with new signs. Two new information panels were installed at the beginning and end of the route, as well as five posts with QR codes along the 6.68 km trail.
By scanning the QR codes, hikers can access a dedicated page on the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba website, containing details of what can be observed at that specific point along the route.
The website has been enriched with technical data and detailed descriptions of the flora and fauna that can be admired along the route.
In 2024, stages 2, 3, 4 and 5 were inaugurated, from Sant’Andrea to Marina di Campo. Stages 6, 7 and 8 are currently accessible and offer the same services, thus completing the first phase of the “New” Via dell’Essenza.
A second phase of the project is planned, with the addition of further sections to complete and further enhance the route around the island.
