The Coastal Trail of Elba Island

The Via dell’Essenza is a project aimed at creating a coastal trail on the Island of Elba. This initiative, promoted by the Fondazione Acqua dell'Elba and the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, seeks to enhance the island’s natural beauty while providing access to both residents and visitors, all in full respect of nature.

In 2023, Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba and the National Park collaborated to equip the first of the eight trails with new signage. Two new panels were installed at the beginning and end of the route, along with five posts featuring QR codes along the 6.68 km path.

By scanning the QR codes, hikers can access a dedicated page on the Fondazione Acqua dell’Elba website, which provides details on what can be observed at specific points along the route.

The site has been enriched with technical data and detailed descriptions of the flora and fauna that can be admired along the way.

In 2024, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th stages (from Sant’Andrea to Marina di Campo) were inaugurated. The 6th, 7th, and 8th stages are also accessible, and in the coming months, they will be equipped with the same services as the previous stages.

At the end of the first phase of the “New” Via dell’Essenza, a second phase is planned to include additional stages, thereby completing the circumnavigation of the island.
