This beautiful circular route follows a path along the northeastern side of Elba Island from Nisportino beach to Mangani beach and back.
The route is well-maintained with a moderate elevation gain but features some rough sections and part of the trail is located near sheer cliffs, so you must exercise caution.
From Nisportino, at the far end of the beach on the right, take trail 265, which ascends along the Promontory of Punta delle Casette with a brief but steep climb exposed to the sun.
The trail continues under the shade of the Mediterranean scrub before climbing again along the coastal section known as the "Pietre Rosse," offering a spectacular view of the Portoferraio bay. In addition to its high scenic value, the area's geology is noteworthy, characterized by fragile blood-red rocks that make up the hills and cliffs of the nearby Rivercina beach.
The path, suspended between the blue sea and the red cliffs, then continues under a dense holm oak forest. Further ahead, before descending toward Mangani beach, it is necessary to proceed with great care. For about 70 meters, the trail runs along the ridge near the sheer cliffs, and it is essential to pay close attention to the path and the fragile terrain.
After this section of the trail, descend toward the tranquil Mangani beach, also unshaded and with loose ground. The beautiful cove, often deserted even in high summer, is an ideal place to spend the rest of the day, and of course, take a refreshing dip in the sea!
The beach and the trail just taken are nestled in a very wild and natural area. The sea has a turquoise and clear color, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.
On the opposite side of Mangani beach from where you arrive, the path climbs steeply through the Mediterranean scrub until it intersects with the route of the Grande Traversata Elbana, near the Provincial Road of Parata. Follow this toward the right, heading south.
The trail crosses a dense forest of holm oaks and Mediterranean scrub and is particularly shady, leading to the equipped area known as Aia di Cacio. From here, following trail 201, you can descend again towards Nisportino beach.
