Scuba diving in Capraia - Punta della Civitata

Punta della Civitata gives you the chance to do several types of scuba diving; the area is absolutely perfect for any type of scuba diving, from diving experts to amateurs. You will see marvelous rock conformations that, from the deep, sandy seabed at a depth of over 50 metres, give rise to walls, peaks and canyons. The presence of pelagic fish is almost a certainty.

Moor south of the point then start to swim down over a bed of oceanic Posidonia then head outwards with a slightly unlevel sea bed below you.

Once you have reached a depth of -20 metres, the cliff suddeny drops down to 45 metres. In this cliff the gully, that goes from bottom to top, is very suggestive, because it gives way to rocks that are covered in a wide selectionof russet coloured sea weed that grow under other sea weed (above all Flabellia petiolata and Halimeda tuna) as well as other forms of animal life above all the vivid colours of the sponges (e.g. Axinella spp.) and the delicate weavings of the beautiful bryozoans like the lace (Reteporella spp.).

In the dark ravine there are also numerous red mullets but you will also notice some forkbeards; if you swim deeper you will also see conger eels' homes.

You can also do more scuba diving if you go very near the point of Civitata where the sea bed, at a depth of up to -40 metres, consists of rocks and holes that are completely covered in sea anemomies.
