Scuba diving in Giannutri - The arches

As the the name itself suggests, scuba diving in this area consists of geological formationsthat make up suggestive passages and illusions of light.

Any level of licence will enable you to go down.

The buoy is moored at a depth of approximately -15 m on a seabed of rocks mixed with oceanic Posidonia. The existence of natural arches and narrow siphons that, from a maximum depth of -15 metres, are connected to the wall that goes up as far as the surface, thus creating light illusions that are absolutely unique and help make scuba diving here one of the most suggestive scuba diving areas of Giannutri.

Not only the scenographic aspect, but scuba diving here gives divers the chance of seeing, in a limited area, the numerous different species that have adapted to the light illusions: you go from organisms that are keen lovers of light like brown seaweed and sargassum to those that prefer to live in areas with little, if any light like russet coloured seaweed, Peyssonnelia, green seaweed and also sponges and bryozoans.

In this variety of different environments needless to say there is also a vast choice of fish that are typical in this infralittoral rocky area like wrasses, damselfish, sea bream, moray eels and the odd, small grouper that bravely peaks out from his hole.

For those more expert scuba divers the area allows them to get to a high wall that is at a depth of more than -30m, and here a pleasant surprise awaits them: lobsters, as well as large redfish.

The scuba diver who prefers to dedicate his scuba diving only around the arches, even if he reaches them on his way back after the deepest part, can be absolutely sure of living living unique emotions.
