Scuba diving in Giannutri - Grotto Cove (Cala del Lino)

This scuba diving site is suitable for any level of licence level and is particularly suggestive if you like nightime scuba diving or you are teaching inexperienced divers.

The buoy is moored at a depth of -10 m on a sandy seabed that is covered in oceanic Posidonia.

If you then swim eastwards, getting to the first, surfacing rocks mixed with Posidonia, continue along the seabed, and, with the rock to your left, you will reach a maximum depth of -18/20 m.

Further along, as the blanket of Posidonia gets thicker, you can swim slightly upwards across a , with rocks and partially with vegetation.

At this point your scuba diving again gets nearer the inside of Grotto Cove, so keep the wall to your right.

Thanks to the wide variety of the environments, you will see the dense population that is so typical of a field of posidonia plus the surfacing rocks where many different species of fish live among the infralittoral rocks like damselfish, wrasses, sea bream and moray eels.

Although scuba diving here is easy you will also be able to enjoy scuba diving at night when you will get the chance of observing some of the fish while they sleep while others are out on the hunt; some mollusks, like the female octopus and above all shrimps and crabs, are less commonly seen in daytime, but if you come across them will definitely enrichen the many emotions of your scuba diving.

Not far from where the buoy is moored, if you are lucky you might even spy a particular type of anemone while it opens out its tentacles after having kept them closed for most of the day.
