Type of dive: reef, wall
Minimum required certification: advanced
Depth: min 16 m - max 42 m
Descending at the anchoring point, you encounter a plateau at a depth of 16/17 m covered by a dense and lush Posidonia oceanica meadow in excellent condition.
Similar to SP3, this reef has, however, a deeper peak. Continuing in a NW-SE direction, it overlooks the edge of a ledge that, starting at a depth of about -19 meters below sea level, develops into a true vertical wall down to -36 meters. Reaching this depth, only for the most experienced divers, the wall continues more gently, alternating between ledges and rocky plateaus, down to the base located at -42 meters.
A distinctive feature of this dive site is the presence of canyons and caves covered with vividly colorful fauna and flora. The walls of the reef are colonized by typical coralligenous assemblages, characterized by sea roses and red algae. The animal life is also particularly rich, especially with the presence of sponges and bryozoans that provide shelter to crustaceans: primarily lobsters, slipper lobsters, and European lobsters. Pelagic fish are always present, as well as numerous dentex, gilthead seabream, and large groupers.
The dive continues with a slow ascent following the slope to prevent divers from requiring decompression stops.
It is worth noting the presence of significant bottom currents, predominantly with a NW-SE direction, which can increase the level of difficulty of the dive path.
