Night-time emergency veterinary service
A night-time emergency veterinary service is active on the Island of Elba from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM, seven days a week. In case of an emergency, call the toll-free number 800 83 59 29.
How the service works
The service is managed by three veterinarians on the Island of Elba who take turns four nights a week. In case of an emergency, call the toll-free number 800 83 59 29. The call is answered by a veterinarian on the mainland who evaluates the situation described. If the animal’s condition requires urgent care, the caller is put in touch with the on-duty veterinarian on Elba for that night. Otherwise, advice is given on how to manage the situation independently and, if needed, which medicines can be administered to the dog or cat.
The Elba-based veterinarians who have made themselves available are: Michele Barsotti, Andrea Osano and Marco Mugnai. They will go to their respective clinics in the event of an emergency requiring intervention.
What happens when no veterinarians are available at night
Based on the agreements and availability provided by the three doctors, coverage is guaranteed for four nights a week. On the other nights, the toll-free number can still be called to receive telephone assistance. However, in the event of an emergency, it will be necessary to wait for the first ferry in the morning and then visit a veterinarian on the mainland.
