Cruise calls in Portoferraio
Portoferraio is one of the majorstopping places for cruise ships in the Mediterranean.
More than a hundred cruise ships, with as many as 2500 passengers on board, come into the port of Portoferraio every year, with the aim of getting to know the old part of the Medicean town and the Island itself.
Every cruise ship has been built with the comfort of its passengers and their enjoyment on board the main priorities, so you will recognise them the moment you see them; some of them are very large indeed, and are given a very special welcome on the Island of Elba.
It can be an interesting experience coming to admire these "gentle giants" moored in the port of Portoferraio, and sometimes - only if you have been granted permission by the travel agency - you are allowed on board to get a closer look for a guided tour and feel the holiday atmosphere even if for a just one day!
