What to do around Rio Marina
Rio Marina is known as the “Shining Coast” because some of its beaches feature dark sand rich in hematite and small mineral fragments that reflect the light. From the village, several beaches and coves can be reached on foot, including Marina di Gennaro, Luisi d’Angelo and Porticciolo. Behind the Torre degli Appiani begins the panoramic Sentiero dell’Amore, a nature trail leading towards Ortano and offering wide views over the eastern coast of Elba.
By car, motorbike, bicycle or public transport, the beaches of Topinetti, Cala Seregola, Cavo, Nisporto, Nisportino and Bagnaia are also easily accessible.
For those interested in history, nature and minerals, the Rio Marina Mining Park offers visits to the ancient mines, guided excursions, train tours and mountain bike activities. Nearby attractions also include the Mineral Museum, the Torre degli Appiani and, in Rio nell’Elba, the Orto dei Semplici, the Hermitage of Santa Caterina, the Archaeological Museum, the Casa del Parco and the historic public washhouses.
